*The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy (Vicki Iovine)

The Girlfriend’s Guide is a great book if you don’t want to think too much. It’s very easy to read and even sometimes humorous. It’s pretty much exactly what you would expect a former Playboy centerfold to write. (Which Vicki Iovine is. Or at least claims to be.) Her morals don’t exactly match mine and I can’t exactly relate to worrying about having been high or drunk during conception. What I really don’t like about this book is her love of drugs & painkillers and doing everything conventionally. She does actually bring up midwives once. But she has nothing really good to say about them (mainly because she doesn’t know anything about them) and even discourages their use for your first birth. I think this book could easily breed closed-mindedness. We need to encourage women to know their options and to choose what is right for them. Even if that is a planned C-Section. Whats important is knowing all of your options and the risks and benefits of each.
